A court in Joypurhat on Monday sentenced a woman and her lover to death for killing her husband at Khetlal upazila in the district in 2015.

Additional District and Sessions Judge Court-1 judge Md. Nurul Islam pronounced the verdict against Jotsna Begum, of Mahabbatpur Durgapur village, and her lover Shahin Mia alias Babu, of Dash Khanpara area in the upazila, on Monday morning.

The court also fined them Tk 50,000 each.

According to the case statement, the victim Jamirul used to live in his in-laws house since he got married with the convict Jotsna Begum. At one point, Jotsna got involved in an extramarital affair with Shahin. 

Following this affair, a family dispute had created between the couple. As sequel to it, Jotsna along with Shahin strangled Jamirul to death on November 9, 2015.

Later, the victim's uncle Sanaul Islam lodged a murder case with Khetlal Police Station as the plaintiff.

The investigation officer of the case SI Mohammad Nazrul Islam pressed a chargesheet before the court on March 2, 2016.

After hearing witnesses and examining evidences, the court handed down the verdict in presence of the duo.
