29 Myanmar border guards again take shelter in Bangladesh
At least 29 members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) have taken shelter in Bangladesh on Monday due to the heavy gunfights between Myanmar's government troops and rebels.
Bangladesh Border Guard (BGB) Public Relations Officer Shariful Islam 29 armed Myanmar’s government personnel from Angthapaya Camp of the BGP force crossed Jamchari border in Naikhongchhari upazila of Bandarban on Monday noon.
He said being informed, several BGB teams reached the spot and initiated the process of disarming the BGP personnel.
People living in the Jamchari border area reported intense fighting and sounds of mortar explosions since Monday morning, he added.
Last month, over 300 members of various forces, including Myanmar's border guards, took shelter in Bangladesh due to the ongoing conflict in Rakhine state.
However, they were sent back on February 15.
